Licensed Frameless Glass Shower Door installation

Do I Need a Licensed Contractor to Install a Frameless Shower Door in Florida?

The Importance of A Licensed Contractor to Install a Frameless Shower Door in Florida

When a Florida homeowner is shopping for a frameless shower door, the process usually focuses on glass style, hardware finish, and price. Contractor licensing rarely comes up until something goes wrong.

The reality is that Florida does have specific licensing requirements that apply to the installation of glass shower doors and enclosures. Understanding those requirements protects you as a homeowner: from shoddy work, from code violations that surface during a home sale, and from liability if an unlicensed worker is injured on your property.

This guide explains what Florida law requires, how to verify a contractor’s credentials, and why licensing matters far more than most homeowners realize until it’s too late.

MY Shower Door holds a State Certified Glass and Glazing license, one of the highest credentials in our industry. Get a free quote from a fully licensed team.

What Florida Law Says About Shower Door Installation

Florida regulates glass and glazing work under the state’s contractor licensing framework. The relevant license category is the Glass and Glazing Contractor license, issued by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).

There are two tiers: a Certified contractor license, which is valid statewide, and a Registered contractor license, which is recognized within a specific county or municipality. Both require passing a state examination, demonstrating financial responsibility, and maintaining general liability and workers’ compensation insurance.

Frameless glass shower door installation, which involves cutting, handling, and anchoring heavy tempered glass to structural walls, falls within the scope of glass and glazing work in Florida. That means the company or individual performing the installation should hold the appropriate license.

Why Licensing Matters for Frameless Shower Doors Specifically

Frameless shower doors are not a forgiving installation. Unlike a framed door that can tolerate some flex in an imprecise opening, a frameless enclosure relies on tight tolerances, precise leveling, and proper anchoring to prevent leaks, hinge problems, and, in the worst case, glass failure.

Code Compliance

Local building codes often govern how glass must be anchored in wet areas, minimum glass thickness for certain opening sizes, and tempered glass requirements. A licensed contractor knows these codes for your specific county. An unlicensed handyman may not.

Insurance and Liability

If an unlicensed worker is injured at your home, your homeowner’s insurance may not cover the claim, leaving you personally liable. Licensed contractors are required to carry workers’ compensation coverage, which protects both their employees and you as the property owner.

Warranty Validity

Many glass manufacturers and suppliers require professional, licensed installation as a condition of any product warranty. If your enclosure is installed by an unlicensed party, you may void the warranty before you ever step into the shower.

Resale and Inspection Issues

Unpermitted or improperly installed bathroom work has a way of surfacing during home inspections at the time of sale. A shower enclosure installed without the proper licensing or permits can create complications that delay or derail a real estate transaction.

How to Verify a Florida Glass and Glazing Contractor’s License

Before hiring any company to install your frameless shower door, you can verify their license directly through the Florida DBPR’s online licensing portal at myfloridalicense.com. Here is what to check:

  • Confirm the company holds an active Glass and Glazing Contractor license (Certified or Registered).
  • Confirm the license is in good standing, not expired, suspended, or disciplined.
  • Confirm the license covers your geographic area (Certified licenses are valid statewide; Registered licenses are county-specific).
  • Ask for the license number and verify it yourself. Reputable companies will not hesitate to provide this information.

Verify MY Shower Door’s Credentials

All three owners of MY Shower Door hold a State Certified Glass and Glazing license valid for the entire state of Florida. We are licensed, insured, and have maintained our credentials continuously since 2003. We are happy to provide our license number upon request.

What About DIY Installation?

It is technically possible for a homeowner to attempt a frameless shower door installation as a DIY project. However, doing so involves several real risks that most DIY guides understate.

  1. First, the glass used in frameless enclosures is heavy. A single 3/8-inch glass panel for a standard shower can weigh 50 to 80 pounds or more. Handling it without proper equipment and a second set of skilled hands creates a significant risk of breakage and injury.
  2. Second, frameless installations require precise drilling into tile and substrate to anchor hinges and wall channels. Errors in placement are very difficult to correct once the glass tile has been cracked or an anchor point has been mislocated.
  3. Third, tempered glass cannot be re-cut after tempering. If a custom-fabricated panel does not fit correctly due to a measurement error, a new panel must be ordered, potentially at full cost.

For these reasons, and in light of Florida’s licensing framework, professional installation is strongly recommended for frameless shower enclosures.

Red Flags to Watch for When Comparing Quotes

The frameless shower door market, like many home improvement categories, does have actors who cut corners. Here are warning signs to look for when comparing bids:

  • No license number provided or license cannot be verified through DBPR.
  • Significantly lower price than other quotes, often a sign of unlicensed work, thinner glass, or inferior hardware.
  • Installation offered within days of initial contact with no mention of an in-home measurement. Frameless enclosures require precise measurement before fabrication.
  • Subcontractors used for installation rather than in-house trained technicians.
  • No written warranty provided in advance of work.

The MY Shower Door Difference

MY Shower Door is a family-owned company, founded in 2003 in Fort Myers, Florida by the Daubmann family. Since then, we have grown to ten locations across Florida and North Carolina while maintaining one consistent practice: every installation is performed by our own in-house, trained specialists, never subcontractors.

Our ownership team holds State Certified Glass and Glazing licenses covering the entire state. We carry full general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Every enclosure we install is custom-fabricated at our own manufacturing facility and backed by our warranty.

That level of vertical integration and accountability is rare in our industry. It is why we have been recognized on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies nine consecutive times, and why thousands of Florida homeowners and contractors have made MY Shower Door their first call for glass enclosures.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is a permit required to install a shower door in Florida?

Permit requirements vary by county and municipality. Your contractor should advise you on local permit requirements for your specific installation. A licensed professional will handle this process correctly; an unlicensed installer may skip it entirely, creating liability for the homeowner.
  • What is a ‘State Certified’ versus ‘Registered’ Glass and Glazing license in Florida?

A State Certified license is issued by the state and is valid in any Florida county. A Registered license is issued at the local level and is valid only in the county or municipality where it is registered. When hiring a company that serves multiple Florida markets, a State Certified license is the stronger credential.
  • Can I look up a contractor’s license myself?

Yes. Florida’s DBPR maintains a public license verification tool at myfloridalicense.com. Enter the company name or license number to confirm active, good-standing status. MY Shower Door’s licenses can be verified directly at the links provided in the credentials section above.

Frameless Shower Doors in Florida

Frameless Glass Shower Doors in Florida

Frameless Glass Shower Doors in Florida:

The 2026 Trends, Pricing, and Buyer’s Guide

Frameless Ultra-Clear glass shower enclosure in a modern Florida bathroom

Interior designers know something most homeowners do not. The single highest-impact change you can make to a bathroom is not a full renovation. It is replacing the shower door. One change. No demo. No mess. No weeks without a usable bathroom. Just a space that reads as fully renovated.

That is the quiet reframe shaping Florida bathroom design in 2026, and it is why the frameless glass category is moving faster here than almost anywhere else in the country.

Why Florida Homeowners Are Choosing Frameless Glass

Frameless glass shower enclosures have become one of the most-requested bathroom upgrades in Florida. Homeowners across Fort Myers,  Naples, Sarasota, Orlando, Tampa, Boca Raton, and even Charlotte, NC are choosing frameless for the same reasons: cleaner sightlines, more usable visual space, easier maintenance, and a finished look that holds its value.

The category is growing for three reasons that all matter in Florida specifically.

1. Aesthetic
Frameless glass removes the visual weight of metal framing. The eye reads the tile, the fixtures, and the design choices first. The enclosure itself disappears.
2. Resale Value
Florida real estate is a photo-driven market. Bathrooms have one of the highest ROI returns of any home upgrade, and a frameless enclosure is the single most photogenic element in most bathrooms.
3. Climate Fit
Aluminum-framed shower doors trap moisture in their channels, leading to mold, mildew, and visible corrosion. Florida’s humidity, heat, and salt air accelerate all three. Frameless enclosures use minimal hardware, which dramatically reduces those failure points.

This guide covers what is changing in the category right now, what frameless installations actually cost in Florida in 2026, and what to ask before you buy. Whether you are upgrading your master bath, evaluating a vacation rental, or specifying a frameless install for a client, the same fundamentals apply.

Is a Frameless Shower Door Right for Me?

Frameless vs. Framed: The Real Differences

Four factors separate framed and frameless installations.

Structure. Framed doors rely on a full metal perimeter for support. Frameless doors use thicker tempered glass (typically 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch) that stands on its own with minimal hardware: hinges, a handle, and a sweep.

Maintenance. This is where frameless installations earn their keep, especially in Florida. Framed doors have channels and grooves where soap scum, hard water deposits, and mold accumulate. Frameless installations have far fewer hiding places. A weekly squeegee and occasional glass cleaner are generally all that is needed.

Aesthetics. Frameless installations make small bathrooms feel larger, showcase tile work without interruption, and photograph cleanly for resale.

Cost. Frameless carries a higher upfront cost than framed, typically $900 to $3,500 and up, depending on size, glass spec, and hardware. The longer service life, lower maintenance burden, and stronger resale impact usually close the gap quickly for Florida homeowners planning to stay in the home or sell within five to ten years.

Will Water Leak from a Frameless Shower Door?

The short answer is no, when the enclosure is properly installed. Frameless shower doors use precision-fitted sweeps and seals along the bottom and sides of the glass to keep water inside the shower. The “frameless” designation refers to the absence of a structural metal frame, not the absence of water-tight seals. High-quality silicone seals and glass-to-glass clips do the same containment job that a frame does in a framed installation.

The variable is installation precision. Out-of-plumb walls, miscut glass, or a sweep that does not contact the curb evenly will all produce leaks. A frameless installation lives or dies on millimeter-level measurement and fitting, which is why most successful Florida installs use specialists who do nothing else.

How Long Will a Frameless Shower Door Last?

With normal care, a high-quality frameless glass enclosure lasts 20 to 30 years or longer. The tempered safety glass used in frameless installations is the same category of glass used in vehicle side windows and is engineered to resist impact and thermal stress.

The hardware (hinges, clips, handles) typically lasts 10 to 15 years depending on the alloy used and how aggressive the local water supply is. Hardware is replaceable without pulling the glass, making frameless a genuinely long-term investment rather than a 5-to-7-year refresh cycle.

What Does a Frameless Shower Door Cost in Florida in 2026?

Florida pricing varies by region and project complexity. Here is a current benchmark:

  • Standard single door (swinging or sliding): $900 to $1,800
  • Walk-in enclosure panel (no door): $800 to $2,000
  • Corner shower with door and panel: $1,500 to $3,000
  • Custom large or complex enclosure: $3,000 and up

These ranges cover installations across Florida’s major markets, including Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Sarasota, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Boca Raton, and Orlando. Coastal builds, and Ultra-Clear glass specifications generally fall in the upper end of each range. Inland builds with standard glass and builder-grade hardware fall in the lower end.

What drives the spread within each range: glass thickness, glass treatment (clear vs. low-iron vs. textured), hardware finish and grade, factory-applied glass coatings, and installation complexity. A $900 single door and a $1,800 single door are different products, not just different prices. Request a free quote from MY Shower Door to get an accurate estimate for your specific space.

Current Frameless Glass Shower Door Trends (2026 Edition)

Six shifts are defining the category in Florida this year.

Comparison of standard tempered glass and Ultra-Clear low-iron glass

Trend 1: Ultra-Clear Low-Iron Glass Has Become the Default

Standard tempered glass has a faint green tint. You stop noticing it once it is installed, but it is there, and it dulls everything behind it. Tile colors look slightly off. Grout lines look heavier. Hardware finishes lose some of their warmth.

In high-end Florida builds in 2026, low-iron glass (also called Ultra-Clear) has gone from a premium upgrade to the spec most designers call out by default. The reason is simple. The point of going frameless is to make the enclosure disappear. Standard glass works against that. Low-iron glass disappears the way it is supposed to.

The shift is most noticeable in coastal markets where natural light is part of the design. White or light-toned tile combined with standard glass photographs as dingy. The same install with Ultra-Clear glass photographs the way the design intended, which matters in a market where most buyers see the home in listing photos before they walk through it.

Close-up of MY Pivot Hinge on a frameless shower enclosure

Trend 2: Engineered Hardware Is Replacing Decorative Hardware

This is the trend most homeowners do not see coming. For years, the conversation about shower hardware was almost entirely aesthetic: what finish, what handle shape, what visual style. The 2026 conversation has shifted toward engineering.

Designers and contractors are now asking about hinge systems specifically. They want to know which hinges put the weight load on the floor versus the wall, which have manufacturer warranties on the moving parts, and which use solid brass internals versus stamped components that corrode in coastal humidity within five years.

This is not a niche concern. A failed hinge in a frameless installation is not a small repair. It usually means pulling and resetting a glass panel, sometimes replacing it entirely. Florida humidity and salt air shorten the service life of cheap hardware in ways that become obvious only after the second remodel.

The MY Pivot Hinge is one example of where the category is going. The system moves about 90% of the door weight to a bottom anchor, which means the wall is not carrying the load. That is engineering applied to a problem Florida bathrooms specifically face, not a styling choice.

Frameless shower door hardware finish options for Florida bathrooms

Trend 3: Coastal-Friendly Finishes Are Reshuffling

A current read on what is holding and what is fading in finish selection across Florida builds:

  • Brushed nickel and polished chrome: Still dominant in transitional and traditional builds. They survive hard water with the least visible damage.
  • Matte black: Cooling off in coastal markets, holding strong inland. The maintenance burden of showing every water spot is finally outweighing the design appeal in high-humidity bathrooms.
  • Brushed brass and champagne bronze: Rising fast, especially in Sarasota and Naples renovations that want warmth without going full traditional.
  • Stainless steel: Standard for any wet-zone hardware near the coast. Avoids the pitting and corrosion that lower-grade alloys show within a few seasons.

The pattern: Florida finish trends are increasingly being driven by what survives the environment, not just what is current in design magazines.

Before and after of a Florida bathroom shower door upgrade

Trend 4: The Single-Door Upgrade Is the New Bathroom Remodel

This is the trend most homeowners are sleeping on, and the one interior designers have been quietly using for years. The traditional path to a bathroom upgrade is the full remodel: tile, vanity, plumbing, lighting, the works. It is expensive, disruptive, and slow.

A growing number of Florida homeowners are realizing they can get most of the visual transformation by replacing one element. Swap a builder-grade framed door for a frameless installation in Ultra-Clear glass with engineered hardware, and the entire bathroom reads as fully renovated. One change. No renovation. No mess. No weeks without a usable bathroom.

The category term for this is quick replacement. It is the highest-impact dollar in the bathroom, and it is the one upgrade where the difference between a low-end and a high-end product is visible from the doorway. The result is a bathroom that looks like a complete renovation, without the price tag to match.

The Florida real estate context matters here too. Bathrooms have one of the highest ROI returns of any home upgrade, and Florida’s competitive listing market rewards homes that show well in photographs. A frameless Ultra-Clear enclosure does both jobs at once.

Trend 5: The Walk-In Wet Room Goes Mainstream

The fastest-growing format in Florida bathroom design is the wet room. A wet room is a fully waterproofed bathroom where the shower area is defined by placement within the space rather than by enclosure walls. A single large frameless glass panel (or a few panels in an L-shape) deflects water from the rest of the bathroom without enclosing the shower entirely.

Wet rooms have several advantages that map directly to how Florida homeowners actually live:

  • They make even a modest bathroom feel dramatically larger.
  • They are accessible by default, which makes them ideal for aging-in-place design.
  • They allow large-format tile to flow continuously across the floor and into the shower.
  • They carry an unmistakable luxury hotel aesthetic that resonates strongly in resort and second-home markets.

Walk-in wet rooms are particularly common in Florida’s new-construction luxury homes, where master bathrooms are increasingly designed as retreat-like spaces rather than purely functional rooms.

rain glass, textured glass for privacy

Trend 6: Textured and Patterned Glass for Privacy

For homeowners who want privacy without sacrificing the open feel of frameless glass, textured glass options have grown significantly in 2026. These glass types let light through while obscuring visibility to varying degrees.

Popular options available through MY Shower Door:

  • Rain glass. A vertical-streak pattern that resembles a rain-streaked window. Moderate privacy, high light transmission.
  • Fluted (or reeded) glass. Vertical channels pressed into the glass surface. Strong privacy, retro-modern aesthetic, currently very popular alongside the broader fluted-everything trend in interior design.
  • Frosted glass. Available from lightly frosted to nearly opaque. Sand-blasted or acid-etched frosted glass works well in guest bathrooms and shared spaces.
  • Seeded glass. Small bubbles embedded in the glass create an antique, artisan look. Common in traditional and cottage-style bathrooms.

Frameless Glass for Every Florida Bathroom

One of the strengths of frameless glass is its design versatility. Unlike framed doors, which can read as dated in certain contexts, frameless installations work across virtually every bathroom aesthetic and spatial configuration in Florida.

The Compact Florida Condo Bathroom

Florida condos, particularly in Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and along the Gulf Coast, often feature smaller bathrooms where every inch counts. Frameless glass is transformative in these spaces.

A compact 36 by 36 inch shower stall fitted with a frameless glass door and matching panel visually expands the space by eliminating the visual wall that a framed enclosure creates. When the shower tile is carried through to the bathroom floor and the glass enclosure preserves the sightline across the room, the bathroom feels dramatically larger than its actual footprint.

Best frameless configuration for compact bathrooms: A hinged door with a fixed return panel, clear or Ultra-Clear glass, and minimal hardware to maximize light flow and visual openness.

The Open-Plan Master Bathroom

Florida’s luxury home market has embraced the open-plan master bathroom: a flowing, hotel-inspired space where the shower, soaking tub, and vanity exist as design elements within a unified room rather than compartmentalized zones.

In these spaces, the frameless shower enclosure functions as a piece of furniture. A sculptural element that has to be as beautiful as it is functional. Large frameless panels (sometimes reaching floor-to-ceiling at 8 to 10 feet), premium hardware in coordinating finishes, and specialty glass choices are all common.

Best frameless configuration for open-plan masters: A walk-in wet room layout with one or two large fixed panels and no door, or a three-sided enclosure with a pivot door in 1/2 inch low-iron glass.

The Traditional Florida Home Bathroom

Not every Florida home is ultra-modern. Colonial Revival, Mediterranean, and Craftsman-style Florida homes call for a bathroom aesthetic that honors the architecture while still feeling current. Frameless glass, with the right hardware selection, fits beautifully in these traditional contexts.

Hardware is the deciding variable. Oil-rubbed bronze or polished chrome paired with classic white subway tile or marble, finished with seeded or frosted glass texture, produces a frameless enclosure that reads as appropriately timeless rather than jarringly contemporary.

Best frameless configuration for traditional bathrooms: A single pivot door with a stationary panel, brushed nickel or oil-rubbed bronze hardware, and rain glass or seeded glass for a warm, classic look.

The Vacation Rental or Investment Property Bathroom

For Florida investors upgrading vacation rental properties, frameless glass shower doors offer an exceptional return on investment. Guests notice and remember upscale finishes, and a frameless glass shower enclosure is one of the most photographable features in any bathroom. Listing photos and review-driven booking platforms reward properties that look this good.

From a practical standpoint, frameless enclosures are also easier to maintain between guests than framed alternatives. Fewer crevices mean faster cleaning and lower housekeeping cost per turn.

Best frameless configuration for rental properties: A durable, clean frameless walk-in shower with a simple pivot door, clear glass, and matte black or brushed nickel hardware for broad aesthetic appeal across guest preferences.

Florida-Specific Considerations

Florida is not like the rest of the country when it comes to bathroom design and construction. That matters when choosing and installing frameless glass shower enclosures.

Humidity and Moisture

Florida’s humidity is constant. Even in air-conditioned homes, bathrooms experience sustained high moisture. Frameless glass enclosures are particularly well-suited to Florida’s climate for one primary reason: they dramatically reduce the surface area of metal hardware exposed to humidity.

Traditional framed shower doors run aluminum channels along all four sides of the door. Those channels trap moisture and provide ideal breeding ground for mold and mildew. Frameless installations eliminate this issue almost entirely. The minimal hardware (a few hinges, a handle, and a door sweep) is far easier to keep dry and clean.

For coastal builds specifically, brushed nickel, brushed brass, and stainless are better long-term choices than polished chrome, which can dull faster in salt air.

Building Codes and Safety Standards

All glass used in shower enclosures in Florida must be tempered safety glass per the Florida Building Code, and reputable manufacturers and installers comply with this requirement. Tempered glass shatters into small rounded pebbles rather than sharp shards if it ever does break, which dramatically reduces injury risk.

At MY Shower Door, all glass products meet or exceed Florida Building Code requirements. Installations are performed by licensed, insured professionals who understand the specific construction realities of Florida homes.

Installation Expertise

Florida homes present unique installation challenges. Older homes in particular may have out-of-plumb walls, non-standard shower openings, or unusual configurations resulting from previous renovations. Custom frameless glass enclosures can accommodate virtually any configuration, but only when measured and installed by experienced specialists.

The precision required for a properly sealed, level frameless installation is not something to leave to chance. Small errors in measurement or installation produce leaks, door alignment issues, and glass stress that shortens the service life of the enclosure. The MSD installation team is made up of specialists who do nothing else, trained in-house and dedicated to the precision the product demands.

A Contractor’s and Remodeler’s Perspective

For bathroom remodelers and contractors serving Florida’s residential market, frameless glass shower enclosures represent one of the strongest business opportunities in the current cycle.

The Market Opportunity

Florida’s bathroom renovation market is driven by several powerful forces: a real estate market that constantly cycles properties through renovation, a high-income demographic with strong aesthetic preferences, and a robust vacation rental market that demands upscale finishes. Frameless glass sits squarely at the intersection of all three.

Homeowners who choose frameless glass are typically investing in a broader bathroom renovation, which means a frameless shower enclosure often anchors a project that includes tile work, plumbing fixtures, vanities, and lighting. For contractors and remodelers, that is a meaningful upsell opportunity that increases project value.

Positioning Frameless as a Premium Upgrade

The most effective positioning for frameless glass with clients is as a long-term value upgrade from a standard framed enclosure. The framing that lands best:

  • Lower maintenance cost over the life of the bathroom
  • Greater durability in Florida’s climate
  • Higher home resale value
  • Cleaner aesthetics that elevate the entire bathroom, not just the shower

Most clients, once they see the full value picture, choose frameless. The upfront cost premium is real but relatively modest when viewed in the context of a full bathroom renovation budget.

Partnering with MY Shower Door

The MSD team understands the demands of a busy renovation schedule, prioritizes clear communication and on-time delivery, and delivers clean, precise installations that reflect well on the contractor’s brand.

Contractors and remodelers looking to add frameless glass shower enclosures to their offerings can contact the MSD team to discuss partnership opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can frameless glass shower doors be installed in any bathroom?

In most cases, yes. Frameless enclosures are custom-fabricated to fit the specific dimensions of your shower space, which makes them adaptable to virtually any configuration. Very unusual spaces (extreme angles, very low ceilings, complex curves) may require additional design consultation, but an experienced installer can find solutions for most situations.
  • How do I keep my frameless glass shower door clean?

The two main maintenance enemies are hard water deposits and soap scum. The most effective routine is simple: squeegee the glass after every shower (about 15 seconds), and clean with a pH-neutral glass cleaner weekly. Avoid abrasive cleaners and scrubbing pads that can scratch the glass surface. For long-term protection, factory-applied coatings like MY EZ Care Shield bond to the glass and significantly reduce mineral deposits and water spotting compared to wipe-on alternatives.
  • What is the best glass thickness for a frameless shower door?

3/8 inch glass is the industry standard and works well for most installations. 1/2 inch glass provides a more substantial, premium feel and is recommended for larger panels, heavier doors, or installations where the visual weight of thicker glass is desired. The trade-off is weight: 1/2 inch glass requires heavier-duty hardware and a slightly more demanding installation.
  • Do frameless shower doors add value to my home?

Yes, consistently. Bathroom renovations are among the highest-ROI home improvement projects, and frameless glass shower enclosures are one of the most visually impactful upgrades within a bathroom renovation. In Florida’s market, where buyers expect high-quality finishes, a frameless glass shower is a meaningful differentiator in listing photos and walkthroughs.
  • How long does installation take?

A standard frameless shower door installation typically takes 2 to 4 hours once the glass has been fabricated. The fabrication process (measuring, cutting, tempering, finishing) takes approximately 1 to 2 weeks from the time of measurement. Planning the renovation timeline accordingly ensures the shower enclosure is ready when needed.
  • Are frameless shower doors safe for homes with children?

Yes. All frameless glass shower enclosures use tempered safety glass, which is required by Florida building code. Tempered glass is significantly stronger than standard glass and, in the unlikely event it does break, shatters into small, rounded pieces rather than dangerous shards. The hardware used in frameless enclosures is also designed to prevent pinch points and sharp edges.

Bill Daubmann Selected Top 10 Dynamic Leaders to Watch in 2025

How Bill Daubmann Transformed Challenges into Opportunities

Read The Executive Len’s Full Article

bill daubmann

Bill Daubmann has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Dynamic Leaders to Watch in 2025. The article discusses the challenges companies face as they expand, such as increased reliance on third-party vendors, which can lead to production delays, higher costs, and inconsistent quality. These issues often necessitate bringing key processes in-house to align operations with customer expectations and project timelines. This was a challenge Bill Daubmann encountered and strategically addressed.

The Importance of In-House Operations

It is both challenging and essential for companies to maintain control over their operations as they grow. Often, growing businesses rely on third-party vendors, leading to delays in production, increased costs, and inconsistent quality. Over time, these dependencies can compromise customer expectations and disrupt project timelines, making it necessary to bring key processes in-house.

This was exactly the challenge faced by Bill Daubmann, founder of MY Shower Door. For years, the company relied on an external vendor for glass supplies. However, the limitations of this arrangement eventually drove Daubmann and his team to invest in in-house manufacturing. With the establishment of D3 Glass, they were able to enhance efficiency, control costs, and respond more effectively to the increasing market demand across Florida.

A Business Rooted in Family Values

The foundation of MY Shower Door was not crafted in a boardroom but emerged from a personal and family-centered necessity. In 1986, Bill Daubmann and his wife, Donna, faced a life-changing decision when their 10-year-old son, Keith, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease. They chose to leave their traditional careers behind and start a business that would allow them the flexibility to prioritize their family while earning a living.

This journey was not driven by a detailed business plan but by necessity. Self-employment provided the control they needed over their time. Over the years, their decision evolved into a thriving business model characterized by adaptability and trust. Bill’s technical and sales expertise, combined with Donna’s motivational and creative skills, helped establish a service-oriented enterprise built on shared values.

The early years demanded on-the-spot learning, with decisions shaped by both immediate family needs and the business’s emerging demands. This period laid the groundwork for a culture of accountability and clarity of purpose. As Bill puts it, “You don’t build a company first. You build a reason strong enough to carry one.”

Lessons from Sports

Before entering the glass industry, Bill spent a decade as a professional ice hockey linesman in the American Hockey League. This experience taught him invaluable business skills, such as staying composed under pressure, making quick decisions, and maintaining impartiality in high-stakes situations. These abilities proved instrumental in managing people, teams, and navigating uncertain business climates.

In addition, Bill’s time coaching youth baseball offered him insights into effective leadership. By recognizing and leveraging the unique strengths of each player, he learned that success depends on adaptability rather than uniformity. This philosophy carried over into his business, where the focus shifted to hiring employees with strong work ethics and developing roles that suited their individual talents.

Bill’s calm and structured approach to conflict resolution and growth planning became a cornerstone of the company’s culture, influencing both staff dynamics and operational strategies.

Establishing a Strong Foundation in Florida

After nearly 15 years of running their business in Massachusetts, the Daubmann family relocated to Florida in 2002. This move was not just geographical but strategic, enabling them to adopt a more customer-focused approach. A year later, they opened the first MY Shower Door showroom in Naples.

As the business expanded across Southwest and Central Florida, it maintained a steady pace of growth. Each new showroom followed a consistent model that invited customers to explore materials firsthand and interact with trained staff. This approach built trust and allowed the team to effectively communicate the value of their work.

The company prioritized in-house training for all new employees, who came from diverse backgrounds. Bill emphasized hiring for attitude and building skills afterward, a strategy that ensured consistency even as the team scaled up.

Bringing Manufacturing In-House

With increasing demand, supply chain delays began to affect project timelines. At the time, the company sourced glass from a vendor in Alabama, with weekly deliveries that left little room for flexibility. Any delay in shipments could significantly impact installations and customer experiences.

To address this, the team decided to bring manufacturing in-house. This required setting up a dedicated facility, investing in machinery, staffing, and training, and taking personal financial risks. Ultimately, the move paid off. The creation of D3 Glass allowed the company to improve turnaround times, manage quality and costs, and even introduce proprietary hardware and coatings, giving them a competitive edge. As Bill explained, “If something starts affecting your service, you have to fix it at the source.”

Fostering Workforce and Culture

As MY Shower Door expanded, building the right team became even more critical. The company recruited individuals from various industries who were eager to learn and grow with the organization. Employees received comprehensive in-house training and a clear career trajectory, which enabled them to adapt to varying projects seamlessly.

Over time, the company’s work culture evolved into one where every team member understood their role and how it contributed to the larger mission. Whether working on the shop floor, in the showroom, or during installations, the objective remained consistent: deliver quality work on time without compromising standards.

Bill also participated in local workforce development initiatives, advocating for equal respect for trade careers and academic paths. “Some people are not looking for a shortcut. They’re just looking for a chance to build something real,” he noted during one of these meetings.

Looking Ahead

MY Shower Door plans to grow in the coming years by forming new strategic alliances. The company remains committed to emphasizing exceptional service and supporting its employees in performing at their best, ensuring continued success in a competitive market.

Why Frameless Shower Doors Are the Best Choice for Your Bathroom

MY Shower Door specializes in custom frameless shower doors that combine beauty, functionality, and lasting value. If you’re deciding between a framed and frameless design, we’re here to tell you why frameless is the clear winner—pun intended.

Below are 5 reasons why homeowners across the country are making the switch to frameless shower enclosures.

custom shower chrome finish large

#1 – Modern, Elegant Design That Elevates Any Bathroom

Frameless shower doors offer a clean, sleek look that enhances the beauty of your tile work and opens up your bathroom like never before. With no bulky metal frames to interrupt the view, the result is a minimalist, spa-like atmosphere that fits both modern and traditional designs.

Why it matters: Whether you’re remodeling or building new, a frameless door gives your bathroom that custom, high-end finish that makes a lasting impression.

Safeway Glass Cleaner

#2 – Easier to Clean and More Hygienic

Framed shower doors trap water, soap scum, and mildew in their tracks and seals—leading to ongoing cleaning headaches. Frameless shower doors have no bottom track and fewer crevices, making them significantly easier to clean and maintain.

Bonus: Say goodbye to rubber gaskets and metal corrosion. Our precision-engineered glass panels and hardware resist buildup and last for years.

#3 – Custom Fit with Durable, Thick Glass

Every frameless shower door we install is measured and custom-fit to your exact space. We use thick, tempered safety glass (usually ⅜” or ½”), which provides superior durability and a high-quality feel without metal framing.

The result: A shower enclosure that’s built to last,  looks better, and performs beautifully over time.

#4 – Boosts Your Home’s Value and Appeal

Frameless shower doors are one of the most sought-after features in upscale bathrooms—and for good reason. They communicate quality craftsmanship, luxury, and attention to detail, which can significantly enhance resale value and buyer interest.

Are you planning to sell someday? Investing in a frameless shower enclosure now means you’ll enjoy it every day and reap the rewards later.

#5 – Makes Small Bathrooms Feel Bigger and Brighter

With no frame to block the view, frameless doors allow more natural light to flow through your space. The clear, open design makes even compact bathrooms feel larger, brighter, and more inviting.

Perfect for: Powder rooms, guest baths, or any space where you want to maximize the visual impact without expanding square footage.

Shower Door Installation Licensing

The Significance of Shower Door Installation Licensing

When it comes to home improvement projects, it’s easy to overlook the importance of proper licensing, especially for seemingly minor tasks like installing shower doors. However, this oversight can lead to a range of issues that could have been easily avoided. In this blog post, we’ll delve into why being licensed to install shower doors is of utmost importance.

  1. 1. Expertise and Skill:

Licensed professionals undergo rigorous training and education in their field, ensuring they possess the necessary expertise and skills to carry out their tasks effectively. Installing shower doors might appear straightforward, but it requires precise measurements, careful handling of materials, and knowledge of various installation techniques. Licensed installers bring a wealth of knowledge to the job, reducing the risk of errors and ensuring a smooth installation process.

  2. 2. Compliance with Regulations:

Local building codes and regulations often dictate specific requirements for shower door installations. Licensed professionals are well-versed in these regulations and ensure that the installation adheres to them. This not only ensures your safety but also prevents potential legal and financial complications that could arise from non-compliance.

  3. 3. Quality Craftsmanship:

A licensed installer takes pride in their work and is committed to delivering quality craftsmanship. They understand that the longevity and functionality of the shower door depend on the precision of the installation. By hiring a licensed professional, you can be confident that your shower door will be installed correctly and withstand the test of time.

  4. 5. Warranty and Insurance:

Licensed installers often provide warranties for their work, giving you peace of mind in case any issues arise after the installation. Additionally, they typically carry insurance, which means you are protected from liabilities in the event of accidents or damage during the installation process.

  5. 6. Value Addition:

A properly installed shower door not only enhances the aesthetics of your bathroom but also adds value to your home. Licensed installers ensure that the installation is carried out in a way that complements the overall design and functionality of the space, contributing to the overall value of your property.

  6. 7. Time and Cost Efficiency:

While hiring a licensed installer might seem like an additional expense, it can save you both time and money in the long run. Professionals are equipped with the right tools and techniques to complete the installation efficiently, reducing the risk of mistakes that could lead to costly repairs down the line.

In conclusion, the importance of being licensed to install shower doors cannot be overstated. From ensuring expertise and compliance with regulations to delivering quality craftsmanship and providing warranties, licensed professionals offer a comprehensive package that guarantees a hassle-free and successful installation. When it comes to your home, investing in licensed expertise is an investment in safety, quality, and long-term value.

Haley Fodor, Inside Sales Associate

Employee Spotlight: Haley Fodor

Haley Fodor

inside sales associate in our North Naples showroom

Explain what you do for the company.

I am an inside sales associate in our North Naples showroom dealing with everyday homeowners and a long list of contractors and designers.

What do you love about your job?

I love the people – both my coworkers and clients. We have a great group in Naples that works well together and knows how to fun while still beating sales records. And I love the fact that I get to meet so many people day-to-day and build relationships. You meet all different walks of life and hear their stories, while also helping them create the dream shower!

What do you like to do for fun when you are not at work?

I am a wine lover so love to do some wine tastings, cook at home & host, or hanging out with family and friends. Anytime I get the chance, I love to travel!!

What is one thing you’ve learned/how have you grown as a result of working here?

Gosh, to only say one thing is hard. There’s so much I have learned here that has made me the person and salesperson I am today. I would say one of the most beneficial was the Master Class Course on how to negotiate. Of course it taught me how to be a better negotiate; however, the biggest thing it did was how to show empathy, talk to every type of person, and allow me to gain their trust.

How did you come to work for MY Shower Door?

Actually, my parents are neighbors with one of the owners, and someone who I had grown to know throughout the years. I was up in Ohio at school but my parents were in Florida and it was so difficult to find an internship by them. Internships aren’t typically paid either so finding one in a complete different area was tough since you’d have to pay rent. That’s when they had offered me an internship with MY Shower Door back in 2018 and ended up coming back to work full time!

EZ Care Shield

What is MY EZ Care Shield?

MY EZ Care Shield

MY EZ Care Shield is a permanent glass protectant and water-repellant coating that is applied to the glass in your frameless shower. This coating is designed to reduce maintenance and keep your shower glass looking new. MY EZ Care Shield comes backed by a limited 10-year warranty from MY Shower Door.

This incredible product is a result of collaboration between MY Shower Door and an extremely prominent Nano-Technology development group. Each company has over 20 years of experience in the Glass and Glazing industry.

MY EZ Care Shield protects glass from mineral contaminants and corrosive acids that try to infiltrate the glass surface’s microscopic pores, which can result in unsightly staining. The special EZ Care Shield formulation vastly exceeds the performance of low budget “do-it-yourself” products as well as most of the highly expensive “factory-applied” coatings.

At MY Shower Door, we apply our MY EZ Care Shield in a controlled environment at our glass factory in Fort Myers, Florida. Our skilled installation team is also trained to apply MY EZ Care Shield in the field after glass has been installed, if needed.
MY EZ Care Shield is the most effective glass protectant and water-repellant formula available on the market to keep your new frameless shower door looking brand new.
